Will playing the guitar like this cause long term pain in my wrist?

Will playing the guitar like this cause long term pain in my wrist?
I play fast punk. I only do downstrokes, never any up. This is an example of the speed I play for about 5 minutes solid

Will this cause any long term or perminate wrist pain or damage? My wrist does hurt, but it goes away if I don't play for about 3 or so days.

Thank You

  1. a number of "famous" guitarists have gotten carpal tunnel from playing........ if u get a numbness/pins-n-needles type feeling in ur hands and-or fingers while playing u should speak to ur doctor........ they sell wrist braces at cvs or wal-greens that can help to alleviate the symptoms as well........

  2. Possibly. Look around for others who play as you do; see how long they've been dealing with it.

  3. It's repetitive motion, so carpal tunnel is a possibility.
