  1. You didn't tell us when you went to bed. If you fall asleep at eight p.m. and wake up at 4:45, you have probably gotten enough sleep. In order to sleep later, you should make your bedtime later. If you are going to bed late and still waking up, I would guess that you are stressed by the problems life can bring us. Some people sleep like logs, no matter what they face the next day. Others, worried about problems like joblessness, lack of money, a messy love affair, etc., sleep restlessly. With the News Media filled with bad news, some people worry about these conditions and this is reflected in their sleep.I think you should practice relaxation. Reading a book just before bedtime does help. Try the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. This will put anyone to sleep. Don't drink alcohol, don't eat snack food, don't chat with friends...simply relax and enjoy a funny sitcom or make plans for the party you will throw on your birthday. When you do go to bed, don't lay there and worry, just enjoy some good music and let your mind drift into happy occasions. Push worry from your mind and allow sleep to give you the rest that you need.

  2. we all have an internal clock. Our bodies know when we have had enough sleep. This is my guess.
