Swelling of the knee?

Swelling of the knee?
I have been running track for two weeks now. and i have been having mild pain in my knees when we run anywhere but on the track. no swelling occured just mild pain. yesterday i took a nasty fall, and now my knee is swollen to a tangarine. i have iced on and off 10 minutes since last night till now. swelling is still occuring. What would bve something i should do. should i go to the doctor. or just continue on with home remedy and continue track?

  1. The amount of pain and swelling doesn't indicate the severity of the injury. The ability to bear weight, to move the knee through the normal range of motion, and to keep the knee stable when wiggled is more important.Typically, strains and sprains hurt immediately and continue to hurt for hours and even days after the injury. Swelling tends to come on rather slowly over a period of hours but may reach rather large proportions. When a ligament is completely torn, there is intense pain immediately, which subsides until the knee may hurt little or not at all for a while. Usually there is significant bleeding into the tissues around the joint when a ligament is torn; swelling tends to come on quickly and be obvious, even impressive, to the eye.The best policy when there is a potential injury to the ligament is to avoid any major activity until it is clear that this is a minor strain or sprain. Home treatment is intended only for minor strains and sprains. And good luck.

  2. I'd o to the dr first! Then take it easy til your knee is better. If that means no track then so be it!But I woouldn't risk having an injured knee and doing track!
