What's the best instant relief for shin splints?

What's the best instant relief for shin splints?
I used to only get them when I was running but now get them if I cycle hard ... any advice on how to achieve insatnt relief from the pain.... it doesn't always happen and seems to be worse if I don't warm down.

  2. As a runner, I sympathize !Shin splints are the worst.Definitely do warm-ups && cool-downs before && after you run or cycle. If you've just recently gotten shin splints this time, try putting a heating pad on them. You're supposed to apply heat to new injuries && ice to older injuries, so ice them after a week or so of heat.Try to figure out (as I see you've been doing) what triggers them the most. Don't cycle too hard if that's what bothers them, && when you run, try to avoid pavement. Grass is much easier on your shins. It may be difficult, depending on where you live, but running barefoot also alleviates some of the pain of shin splints. && I hate to tell you this, but you might want to take a break from working out. Rest always helps injuries, especially shin splints.

  3. Don't rub them it will only hurt more. Cramps are caused by a buildup of Lactic acid. You can stretch them by putting your feet toe first toward the ground and stretch forward like doing a lunge. Eat more potassium it will help to reduce the cramps, but dont get too much, it can be toxic. Bananas are loaded with potassium. you can always use heat and ice therapy.

  4. You need to stretch your calves. Stand on the edge of a stair facing up them with your toes on the end and drop your heel down as much as you can for a good stretch.

  5. Ice them, massage, and stretch a lot.

  6. Stretching: Stretching is a great way to get relief from shin splints. Stretching will loosen up your muscles, which makes them less likely you tear or rip. The tear or rip is what will cause the pain over the next few days. Stretching after you do your activity will help keep your muscle from tensing up. When it is lose, it feels fine and so do you.
