Migrane medicines (triptan drugs)?

Migrane medicines (triptan drugs)?
I'm reffering to the ones that are used to abort a migrane (Maxalt, Axert, Imitrex, Frova, etc)
Question is, these drugs are in the same category and chemically built the same, right?
So how come some are covered by insurance some are not, Some are cheaper than others, if they are basically the same thing and work the same way, targeting the serotonin levels.. .. ???

  1. Actually, this is where your insurance carrier gets to play doctor. They actually contract with certain drug companies so that "their" patients (aka customers!) can purchase Drug X (Be it Frova, Axert, Maxalt) at X price. You may actually talk to the pharmacist and ask for a price quote and get a lower price for one that is NOT covered than one that IS, but again it's all in how they have their contracts.FWIW, in my experience as a pain management provider, I've had the best luck with Relpax and Frova.
